Base : YWAM Newcastle - The Youth Street Base

I am writing this to you from the dinning room of the Ywam base in Canberra, the capital city of Australia. We traveled here as a whole base on Sunday morning to be a part of the 50th year of Ywam, our Jubilee year! We have heard from Aboriginal community elders, a politician who has taken Bibles into some of the most closed off places in the mid 80's, we've heard from the Australian YWAM Director, Steve Ahern and honoured three of the pioneering families of both YWAM Canberra and YWAM Australia. Along with us were representatives from all the YWAM bases on the east coast as well as some awesome surprises like members of YWAM Siberia! In total there were about 500 delegates. We were lucky enough to have with us the founders of YWAM; Loren and Darlene Cunningham who spoke on YWAMs past, present, and future 50 years. Inbetween hearing amazingly encouraging stories of what God has been doing throughout the world through different YWAM ministries, we have also been learning about the Fear of the Lord from an amazing man from Melbourne: Mark Brokenshire. He took us through why God should be feared because of his epic proportions. How Gods hatred of sin should be adopted by us because sin breaks relationship. That is what God wants, relationship. We had a rad time of small group confession and got to bask in Gods loving forgiveness. This also brought us closer together as a group. We have been hanging out at the cafe playing pool and ping pong and just getting to know each other better as well as meeting and laughing with other dts students from Townsville and Sydney and many staff members with epic heart warming, spirit and faith encouraging stories. We will soon head off back home to Newie on Friday morning. But we still get to sleep one more night in our amazing five sided tents. To catch you up on last week we had a great week of orientation and meeting each other. We welcomed one of the biggest groups of people from our happy cabby shuttle. I think it was nearly 13 people, which was awesome and heaps funny. We spent a lot of time learning the ins and outs of the base and Youth Street and then enjoyed a bbq together at a nature reserve. At which, some of us met koalas and kangaroos for the first time. Others spoke of how fun it would be to hunt certain ones of the animals. We had our school photos done, we got our small groups and work duties and tidy time jobs, and of course we had our first one on ones. We also got to hand in our first CIR's (Creative Integrated Resource). We discussed evangelism with the School of Evangelism students and a great man called Danny Taylor from the Perth base in Western Australia. On Friday we heard from our school leader Mr. Fuiava about hearing the Voice of God. Some of us are tired, some of us are still amped and all of us are getting stretched by God in good ways. We hope you are all well and blessed and know you are loved and because of that you are liberated. Our love is yours. Summer Plus DTS January 2010.
