Missions week.
A quarter of our name, Youth With a MISSION. Our speaker Bruce Skinner from the Wollongong base has inspired us, shocked us, blessed us and empowered us further to change the world with, as Ben Harper says “with our own two hands”.
Bruce spoke of worlds and people groups that we can’t pronounce the names of, who haven’t ever been touched by the love of God, have never heard the name Jesus, who we, the people who do know God don’t seem to care about. Now it’s not a bad thing that we want to spread the word to people within our own countries, God calls us to GO to everyone. But we discussed and heard stories about people groups who need to know God. We need to GO to them.
Bruce discussed the 10 – 40 window (more information 1040window.org , I encourage you to visit that site. It will shock and hopefully change your heart) He also discussed how Jesus calls us all to be missionaries. We aren’t called to get a 9-5 job and find our security in our own two superannuation collecting, pay saving hands. We need to find our security in Gods universe creating hands who can responsibly send us, with our 5 year old kids or our 67 year old grandparents into people groups who live in Siberia and Islamic Indonesia and even into politically closed North Korea. These people have been created by God for every treasure in heaven, and God backs us in every way possible to get to them – financially, skills based, health wise etc etc to get us to the places he calls us.
Bruce shared a story about how a friend of his is quoted saying “Christians need to be either millionaires or missionaries” We need to either be senders or the sent. We need to be the mentors, disciplers, empowerers or we need to be the empowered who go – the GOERS. Because if we aren’t going or sending we aren’t using the talents and skills and giftings that we have been blessed with.
Our school has been inspired. Some of us will be called to the darkest places on the planet, and we will be backed and blessed and sent by the inventor of light, the ultimate torch and through us he will light those places. Some of us have been called to train and equip and send. We will be sent to different places to send others to other places. Finally some of us have been called to be the millionaires. Those running missions in the top businesses in the world. We will be CEOs of multi billion dollar corporations and bringing Gods peace and wisdom to some. Also giving money when God calls us to give, to send the gospel to the most unreached people on the planet.
We will go from here, passionate to India, Mozambique and Papua New Guinea. But we will go from there, to wherever God calls us, because, hes called us.
We want to encourage you and speak the truth – You have been called to missions. Don’t let the world or the enemy tell you, you aren’t. The bride of Christ is a missionary, and our mission is to the unreached. Our mission is not to focus on the already reached. Anyone who has played a team sport for a long time knows you improve more as a team playing the game, then talking about it in a room. You improve team morale and team relationship more when you do things together then when you attempt to get to know each other flatly.
We have been blessed by a communal God who has invited us to join his heart for relationship with everyone through GOING.
