My favorite topics were StrengthsFinders and Project Planning. I really put the two hand in hand. Getting to find out about 'me' - my strengths and how I can best use them. Then in the Project Planning week I was able to practice those strengths and work with others in their strengths. You should do the SOMD if you want to gain practical tools like these to help you grow as a leader. Elizabeth Lange, 20, Georgia, USA
I highly recommend the School of Ministry Development. You will gain a wider perspective of what ministry truly is. The SOMD offers you tools to help you be more effective in ministry. It also helps you discover your strengths as well as develop your ability to plan ahead. Don’t hesitate to do the SOMD! Omar Enriquez, 21, Mexico City, Mexico
Spanning the Gap between Theory and Application
"If you work the words into your life, you are like a smart carpenter who dug deep and laid the foundation of his house on bedrock. When the river burst its banks and crashed against the house, nothing could shake it; it was built to last. But if you just use my words in Bible studies and don't work them into your life, you are like a dumb carpenter who built a house but skipped the foundation. When the swollen river came crashing in, it collapsed like a house of cards. It was a total loss." Luke 6:48-49, The Message
Jesus exhorts us to work His words into our lives. Our journey with Him is to be a harmony of theory and application. Ministry in the 21st century is full of demands and challenges. The blending of what we learn and what we do builds a solid foundation for our lives as leaders. The School of Ministry Development (SOMD) spans this gap of theory and application by providing tools, training, and field-based ministry opportunities. You will be developed as a leader who can work Christ’s words into different spheres of society in a relevant, transformational way.
The SOMD is:
Focused. Designed to develop you as a leader, this five-month course consists of highly interactive curriculum, lectures, and field assignments.
Field based. The outcomes of the SOMD are directly related to what happens when you are fully engaged on the mission field.
Cross cultural. Living in Tijuana, Mexico, and learning in a bi-lingual environment brings a new dimension to leadership development.
A highly interactive journey. It helps you figure out who you are and how you fit into His expanding Kingdom on earth.
Action. Your visions for ministry will go from ideas to reality through tools, training, and hands on experience.
Value based. The YWAM values, especially servant leadership, are modeled and practiced during your time in the SOMD.
Worldview 101. You will discover concepts such as "discipling nations" as your current worldview is challenged with Biblical truth.
Effective for the Future:
We don't want to just fill positions in this world. We want to be effective where God calls us. The SOMD develops your strengths and gifts while you discover more about God's call on your life. You will be challenged to dream big and trust God for direction in practical ways.
Groundbreaking:
In the first time in YWAM history, the SOMD will be run out of a campus located in a majority-world nation (Mexico). Come be a part of this groundbreaking effort to train leaders from around the world. Your input as a student and participation through intercession will help shape this SOMD as well as schools in the future.
