It was our final week of ministry this past week and we got to do some really interesting things. On Tuesday we started the morning with a ministry related to parables. We were given 10 rupees each and were asked to get as much from the little we were given. We ended up pooling our money and buying water and goods for certain people on the street and in the process learned that sometimes beggars can be choosers. T hen in the afternoon we wrote encouraging letters to the staff and had the opportunity to play cricket and soccer with local kids, which was a lot of fun. On Wednesday we finally got to go to the place many of us had been patiently waiting for: the leper colony. We hung out with them and chatted and prayed with them, and they told us their stories. I know many of us were touched by the things they had gone through and the faith that kept them going. It is sad to think of the exclusion they go through purely because society doesn’t understand their disease. On Thursday we helped the pastor who was involved in the leper colony by cleaning out an orphanage building. He was planning to open and start it early June, so we got the place nice and clean for the kids to move in.
On Friday and Saturday we helped a local church run some street ministry. We performed some skits, songs and testimonies at a location by a street and drew a crowd (often purely by the fact we were white) and ended with a gospel message.  We had many people come up afterwards asking for prayer for various things, including healings.  It was challenging as we organised a lot of it last minute and it felt strange to preach on a street corner. But in the end it was amazing to see the response of people. We hope that something of what we said reached people. On Sunday we ran the church service at the church we had the open airs for. Grayson did a whole hour of gong show worship, and Ashley preached a sermon on love.
This final week we have, and will be, winding down. Passing out thank-yous, cleaning our rooms and getting debriefed before we leave on Friday. It’s been an amazing experience and we’re all really sad to leave this amazing country. That being said, we will be glad to be on home turf very soon.

Pray for safe travels, and that everything we’ve done here and the seeds we’ve planted will really grow to fullness and affect this country. Thank you everyone for your prayers during this time and your support.

Love, SPIT ‘10
